When Germany takes the (hopefully fully repaired) pitch at the Allianz Arena against Portugal, Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka is expected to start in the central midfield.
The 30-year-old is excited to play such an important game in front of his home crowd.
“It’s a home game for me and for a few other players. I’m happy because I love playing in this stadium. I’m very much looking forward to the game,” Goretzka said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
For Goretzka, it has been a year of revival as he has played key roles for both club and country.
“I don’t think much has changed. I always want maximum success, whether with Bayern or the national team – I’m grateful because I know the situation I was in. I’m just happy to be here again,” said Goretzka.
Finally, Goretzka was asked about his seldom-used Portuguese teammate, João Palhinha, who could see some minutes for Portugal.
“I’d be happy if he plays tomorrow. I know him very well from Bayern. He didn’t have an easy season, so I would be happy if he gets the chance to play tomorrow,” Goretzka stated.
