Birmingham City are set to secure the signing rising goalkeeping star James Beadle.

That’s according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, who says the Brighton & Hove Albion youngster is due to arrive on loan.

If he does so he will join a goalkeeping department that has Ryan Allsop as the undisputed number one, backed up by Northern Ireland international Bailey Peacock-Farrell who lost his place to Allsop after an uncertain start to last season.

Beadle, the current England under-21 ‘keeper, spent his younger years coming through at Charlton Athletic before moving to Brighton in 2022.

He signed professional terms in January 2023 and while he is yet to make his first team debut for the Seagulls, the 20-year-old has plenty of senior experience on loan.

He spent the first half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Oxford United in League One and finished that season in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday. He spent the entire 2024/25 campaign at Hillsborough playing 38 times in all, although he did end it on the bench behind Pierce Charles .

He also played five times for Lee Carsley’s under-21s last term. He was also called up to the senior squad when former Blues midfielder Carsley was in interim charge of the Three Lions.

Beadle’s arrival could see Peacock-Farrell move on, either on loan or permanently, while Allsop will not want to give up his spot having had an excellent season in League One and scooping the golden glove award.
