Vitor Pereira has now revealed whether Matheus Cunha will return to the starting lineup this weekend as Wolves take on Tottenham.

Cunha was banned for four matches after lashing out at Milos Kerkez in Wolves FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth in March.

Paul Merson predicted Wolves to struggle in his absence, as did many others, but the Old Gold have instead flourish.

Although Cunha has scored 15 goals in all competitions this term, Vitor Pereira’s men have coped well without the Brazilian, as they’ve won their last three games against Southampton, West Ham and Ipswich Town.

So, ahead of Wolves clash with Tottenham on Sunday, the big question on the minds of supporters was whether Cunha would start against Spurs, with Pereira now supplying the answer.

Since becoming Wolves manager in December, Pereira hasn’t been scared to make the big decisions and they’ve more often than not been vindicated.

Pereira removed Craig Dawson from his Premier League squad in February, sparking a split opinion from the fanbase, while he also froze Mario Lemina out of the picture after he refused to play.

Arguably, the decision facing him this weekend, though, is the biggest he’s had to make since taking the job, and he’s now revealed the answer.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, as per Nathan Judah on X, Pereira has said Cunha will start on the bench against Spurs and his team will remain unchanged from the win over Ipswich.

The Wolves boss did infer that Cunha is committed to the cause, though with his future this summer seemingly elsewhere, Pereira deserves credit for ultimately making the correct call.

Alan Shearer doesn’t think Cunha will play much more for Wolves

Ahead of the transfer window, Cunha is Newcastle’s top target but as many as six other clubs are interested in the Brazilian’s £62.5 million release clause.

Cunha’s agent is also in discussion with Manchester United over a potential move, presenting the 25-year-old with a huge decision to make.

So, with just seven matches remaining this term, the end for the Brazilian at Molineux is near and Alan Shearer thinks Cunha won’t play much more for Wolves.

“My guess is that he signed a contract, perhaps, to get Wolves some money in the summer, which would have a clause in there.

“So he’ll leave in the summer and someone will buy him. So I don’t suspect he’ll play a big part in what Wolves do in the future.”

Shearer’s prediction for the former Atletico Madrid man is looking correct with Pereira set to leave him on the bench.
