London’s Waterloo Underground Tube station has been evacuated. It sparked travel chaos for hundreds of commuters on their journeys home on Thursday evening (June 5).

Ealier, Transport for London (TfL) said a fire alert has closed the underground station, which links to the mainline station.

Waterloo Underground’s status page on the TFL website now lists the station as “Part Closed”, explaining: “The Jubilee line and the Waterloo & City line are not serving Waterloo station while we fix an electrical fault.

“Tickets are being accepted on London Buses and South Western Railway,” it adds. “The Bakerloo line, Northern line and National Rail services are not affected by this issue.”

South Western Railway, which operates from Waterloo Station, said services haven’t been affected, but station staff are aware.

London Fire Brigade has been approached for details.
