Prince William faces tough decision for Harry as King’s hopes falter
Prince William is now faced with a huge responsibility to fulfil his cancer-stricken father’s final wish.
However, it appears that King Charles’s hopes to see his two sons together in his lifetime dwindles as tensions escalate between the royals and the Sussexes.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex have been estranged since the past two years – right after Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, dropped in 2023.
Now royal sources reveal that the only time the two brothers would finally reunite would be a devastating event for the royal family.
“The funeral of Charles would be the first time that courtiers would imagine [William and Harry reuniting],” an insider told Us Weekly. “I can’t imagine William would invite Harry to his coronation.”
Charles once made a heartbreaking request during a “secret meeting” in 2021, which Harry cited in Spare.
a discussion between Charles and his two sons turned sour as William and Harry got “heated”. As the King intervened, he begged his sons not to “make [his] final years a misery” as they continued to fight.
The source also said that William was “absolutely appalled” by his brother making a comment about their father’s health when the Palace had been working hard to reassure the public about his good progress.
He believed that Harry had stooped “so low.”
Meanwhile, royal commentator Amanda Matta speculated that if the warring brothers would “engage in open, honest dialogue” only then any progress can be made.
“Any reconciliation between the brothers would require so much more than just a single conversation,” Matta explained. “It would demand a real reckoning with the emotional damage on both sides.”
She also noted that the “ball seems to be in William’s court” at this point, and any conversation between them “would likely happen privately” instead of on a public scale.
The expert also pointed out that this is a deep-rooted issue that goes beyond family ties. She said that the “complex and widening rift is about two very different worldviews”.
“One is rooted in preserving tradition, the other in breaking from them when they start to cause harm,” she surmised.
