British holidaymakers are being warned of temperatures surpassing 40C in parts of Spain this week as a “significant” amber alert has been issued.
Parts of Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha and Murcia have been issued a yellow weather warning by Spanish meteorological agency AEMET, coming into affect at 1pm on Saturday, June 7.
Cordoba, Huelva, Seville and Morena are among the affected areas on Saturday, when temperatures are set to reach 28C. These warnings remain in place until 9pm the same day – but there are more warnings the following day.
On Sunday, June 8, there are multiple yellow warnings as well as more severe amber alerts, which mean “significant risk”. Andalusia is affected by the warning between the hours of 1pm and 9pm on Sunday.

AEMET has warned that on Sunday, temperatures are set to surpass 40C – reaching 42C at its peak. Affected areas includes Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Seville and Malaga among other parts of Andalusia.
As well as issuing weather warnings, AEMET has a fire risk map which shows the likelihood of wildfires. Due to the high temperatures over the weekend, there are some areas with “very high” and “extreme” risk of fires from Saturday, getting more severe each day until Wednesday.

The FCDO advises UK tourists to follow the Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMET) and European Meteorological Services to keep an eye out for severe weather warnings.
It also advises Brits to visit Civil Protection for more information about wildfires in Spain and immediately report any fire you see to the emergency services by phoning 112.
