Manchester United have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo following Tottenham’s decision to sack manager Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs defeated Ruben Amorim’s side in last month’s Europa League final, securing a spot in next season’s Champions League. However, United’s focus has quickly shifted to the transfer market as they look to build on their current squad ahead of the new campaign.

One of United’s primary targets this summer – after already securing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha – is Mbeumo. The Cameroon international has been with Brentford since 2019 and is now the subject of strong interest from the Manchester club.

While United have yet to agree a fee with Brentford, personal terms are not expected to be an issue. A report from The Athletic earlier this week confirmed the player’s intention to complete a move to Old Trafford.

Tottenham’s anticipated pursuit of Brentford boss Thomas Frank could further encourage Mbeumo to seek a new challenge this summer. Spurs confirmed on Friday that they had parted ways with Postecoglou, who had spent two seasons in charge.

Despite Postecoglou securing European silverware, the club’s hierarchy deemed it insufficient, citing a need for change following a full-season performance review.

It remains to be seen who will replace Postecoglou, but Brentford’s Frank has emerged as the frontrunner.

Widely regarded as one of the most exciting managers in the Premier League, Frank has built a reputation for overachieving with limited resources. Should Spurs succeed in appointing him, players like Mbeumo may be even more inclined to move on from the Gtech Community Stadium.

Not only that, Brentford could receive an unexpected financial windfall, with The Mirror reporting that Frank has a substantial buyout clause in his contract, last renewed in December 2022.
