Illan Meslier’s exit from Leeds United is inevitable this summer, with the 25-year-old in the final year of his contract.

After Meslier’s removal from the Leeds United lineup by Daniel Farke, the Frenchman is searching for another opportunity to play regular football again.

He could have reacted badly but Patrick Bamford revealed Meslier’s response to being dropped was a positive enough one.

However, it’s not at all probable that he returns to the team now they are a Premier League outfit.

With Phil Hay also believing Meslier’s time at Leeds is over after six seasons with the club, Leeds will look to bank whatever they can. Fortunately, Meslier was signed for £5 million back in 2020 and has signed a new contract previously.

That means his PSR book value is close to zero, and Leeds could therefore cash in easily. It’s why it is not all that surprising that Leeds are reportedly offering Meslier to other clubs and an exit edges closer.

There is a situation where Leeds retain Meslier but news of interest has ramped up of late. French outlet Jeunesfooteux has the latest on emerging parties in Ligue 1.

The report states Meslier interests RC Strasbourg, while RC Lens could also be on the lookout for a player like Meslier. Two Ligue 1 sides have expressed interest, with Strasbourg at the forefront.

Strasbourg qualified for the UEFA Conference League under the guidance of former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior. The club are owned by the same company as Chelsea and loanee Djordje Petrovic is due to return to Stamford Bridge.

The other club has not been identified yet, but RC Lens, currently looking for a goalkeeper due to the uncertainty surrounding Mathew Ryan, are on the list of potential suitors named in the report.

The report also adds that there is talk of English clubs also being in the running to secure Meslier.

It adds that an exit could be “well below the €16 million valuation on Transfermarkt”. That is not surprising given his contract situation and after falling out of favour.

Once upon a time, Meslier was described as “magnificent” by Andy Hinchcliffe. However, he is in the final year of his deal.

As mentioned previously, Leeds don’t need to sell Meslier for much to consider it a profit on the PSR books. It is unlikely to take an eight-figure sum in 2025, and could be considerably less than that.
