An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car. Emergency services were called to St Albans Road in Wallasey at around 12.25pm today, Saturday, June 7.

It followed a report a black Mini Cooper Countryman car had been involved in a crash with a pedestrian. Officers attended the scene and found a 94-year-old woman had suffered serious injuries.

She was taken by ambulance to hospital where she is being treated, police said. The 89-year-old driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their inquiries.

Merseyside Police said one lane of St Albans Road has been closed while investigations are carried out to establish what has happened. Anyone who witnessed the crash or captured the incident on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) on (0151) 777 5747, or email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk.
