The strained relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry has been a hot topic of conversation for years, with the royal siblings locked in a very public impasse.

However, despite the apparent lack of any imminent reconciliation, a significant family event nearly three years ago saw the brothers momentarily set aside their differences to come together. The pair have not crossed paths during Harry’s recent visits to the UK, including for his court case concerning his security provisions in the country.

He battled – and ultimately lost – for police protection for himself and his family upon returning to his native land.

Despite the ongoing low point in William and Harry’s relationship, largely due to a series of revelations in Harry’s memoir Spare, their feud was briefly paused in 2022 following the passing of their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

In the days following Her Late Majesty’s death, it is reported that William reached out to Harry via text message, inviting Harry and Meghan to join him and Kate on the Long Walk in Windsor. This was to view the floral tributes and meet with mourning members of the public who had gathered to honour the late monarch, reports The Mirror.

The united front displayed by the two royal couples, once fondly dubbed the ‘Fab Four’, marked their first public appearance together since Harry and Meghan stepped back from their senior Royal duties and moved to California.

A source revealed to the Daily Mail: “It happened very quickly – remarkable really considering they didn’t see each other in Scotland.”

The Daily Mail further clarified that it was William who took the initiative to reach out to his brother, debunking previous claims that it was King Charles’ idea.

William reportedly felt that presenting a united front was crucial following the Queen’s death, as the family came together to mourn publicly.

Both princes had rushed to Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire upon hearing of the Queen’s deteriorating health. However, they tragically missed the opportunity to bid their grandmother a final farewell, arriving in Scotland after she had passed away.

In the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death, Prince Harry’s explosive memoir Spare was published. In it, he claimed that he learned about his grandmother’s passing through the media, rather than from his family.

Royal author Robert Hardman disputes Prince Harry’s account of being uninformed about the Queen’s health, stating in his book that the Royal Family did try to reach out. Hardman writes: “In his memoir, Spare he suggests that no one had told him and that he was reduced to learning the news from the BBC website as the plane was landing. Not exactly.”

He reveals: “A member of the Palace staff says that the King had been urgently trying to make contact with his younger son. There were repeated attempts to get through to him but no calls were going through because Harry was airborne,’ said the official.”
