Know About The One Thing That Queen Elizabeth Was Afraid OfWhen one analyses Queen Elizabeth II‘s journey, one would realise that she was a strong woman who never really lost her composure. She was the epitome of grace and lived through multiple setbacks without really losing her sense of perspective and focus. She navigated tough periods in life like political and economic crises, a pandemic and her husband’s death without giving the impression that she is scared. However, did you know that there was one thing that the queen was really afraid of. Well, yes! Royal biographer Robert Hardman had revealed in a podcast called ‘Queens, Kings and Dastardly Things’ that the queen was really afraid of helicopters. He said, “She could put up with everything else. She’d been through the war, she’d been through heaven knows what, but she always had a thing about helicopters.” Interestingly, even though the queen was frightened of helicopters, the other members of the royal family loved helicopters. Many of you may be wondering why the queen feared helicopters. Well, as per Hardman, the queen started fearing commuting in helicopters when her flight captain JHL Blount died along with three passengers died in a helicopter crash. The main rotor hub and blade of the helicopter suddenly got detached due to fatigue failure of the drive shaft, thereby causing the helicopter to crash on a field. This incident was a scarring one for the queen and since then she has tried to avoid travelling in helicopters as and when she could. What’s interesting to note is that even thoough Queen Elizabeth never put restrictions on anyone with respect to travelling in helicopter, she never really liked it when her family members took rides in it. Call it ironic, but all three of her sons – Charles, Edward and Andrew – were Army helicopter pilots. The queen’s fear could be attributed to the fact that the two heird of the throne have traditionally not been allowed to travel on the same plane.
