More often that not, buying a house is extremely stressful – especially so in a popular city like Bristol where house prices are high and so is demand.
Location is always a key factor when deciding, particularly when you have children to think about as well.
A couple of years ago, we asked estate agents in the city which areas they would recommend for families.
We have now asked them again and this is what we had back:
‘Families love loads of parts of Bristol’
Nick Stopard, co-founder and managing director at Boardwalk, said: “We actually find that families love loads of parts of Bristol which offer different lifestyle choices – parks, restaurants, community events, cafes, good schools.
“It also depends on whether you’re talking older families or younger families… And obviously different people will look for different things.
“However, we’re finding that those green spaces, combined with good schools, are key so that’s a really good place for us to come at it from.”
Keeping this in mind, Mr Stopard said the top three areas for families in Bristol are Victoria Park in South Bristol, Westbury Park in North West Bristol and St George, in East Bristol.
He said those three areas are all quite different and have their own character, but have a few things in common.
“They all have great parks and green spaces,” he said. “Not just one park but a choice.
“Victoria Park is also not far from Perretts Park and Redcatch Park, Westbury Park has the Downs and Redland Green, St George has St Georges Park and Conham River Park and the river walks.
“They all have very well regarded primary schools, especially the first two, with schools by those names. They all have great restaurants, cafes and pubs.”
He said another thing those areas have in common is that they have a “good housing stock of lovely, largely Victorian or Edwardian homes, with lots of character”, among others.
Bethany Burrows, at Bristol Property Centre, on Chandos Road, said Cliftonwood, Westbury-on-Trym and Horfield are the top three best family areas.
“Cliftonwood offers lots of trendy shops and boutiques but also has a good range of schools in the area as well as beautiful views,” she said.
“It has easy access links to the harbour and is cheaper to buy than in Clifton itself. Westbury-on-Trym is safe and has lots of cafes and is very popular for families.
“Horfield has a good range of schools and easy transport links.”
