West Midlands Police have arrested a man after rapidly responding to reports of a taxi being stolen in Bromford Lane, in the Hodge Hill area of Birmingham.

The incident was reported at around 2am on Sunday, with officers being told that a taxi driver had been threatened by a passenger.

The taxi was taken following the incident, however, officers – along with the force’s dog unit – were quickly able to trail and track the car near Hodge Hill Road less than 10 minutes later. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were alerted to a taxi driver being threatened by a passenger along Bromford Lane, Hodge Hill, at just after 2am.

“The vehicle was then taken but officers – alongside the dog unit – were quickly on the trail and tracked the car near Hodge Hill Road less than 10 minutes later.”

Following a brief foot chase, one of the West Midlands Police canines detained a 19-year-old man.

The spokesperson added: ” He has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, drink driving and failing to stop. 

“He currently remains in custody for questioning.”
