Sunday shoppers at Aldi ended up staying for longer than expected when roadworks and weekend traffic led to gridlock on the car park.
Customers trying to leave the Romiley store ended up stranded for up to 35 minutes as traffic simply stopped moving. before edging slowly to the exit.
Employees on the road works ended up having to divert the traffic around a no entry sign in an effort to relieve the pressure on the road, an eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News.

The eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was frustrating, but there was people beeping, someone’s passenger got out to stop anybody moving so they could get out of their parking space.
“There was multiple people trying to get out of parking spaces at the same time which resulted in more confusion.
“People were walking up to the lights to see what the issue actually was, but because the car park became gridlocked by people trying to leave, those entering then caused the single lane roadworks to become gridlocked.”
Some people reportedly became so frustrated that they left their cars behind and walked home instead.
They added: “It was busy from 1ish but it kept clearing before building again until it all came to a standstill.
“The construction workers ended up diverting people up a no entry to try and clear the car park but the road was backed up all the way into Romiley village.”
After around 35 minutes of the traffic finally began moving properly again, with customers slowly making their way out.
