An Edinburgh street performer was caught on film having a “mare” of a performance surrounded by onlookers on the Royal Mile.

The entertainer stood balanced on a pair of stilts in front of House of Cashmere and Taste of Scotland near St Giles Cathedral when the ordeal went down.

He was surrounded by a throng of observers while holding two juggling pins. A video was posted to TikTok with the caption “Street performer at Edinburgh on the Royal Mile. He’s had a mare, still fun though.”

Things went south when the juggler dropped one of his pins. He was waiting for a participant in the crowd to toss him a third juggling pin, which he seemed poised to catch. However, the seemingly nervous participant had stage fright and the pin never came, forcing the performer to juggle longer than anticipated.

Suddenly, one of the pins went flying into the crowd, prompting a groan from the throng. It was made worse when someone tossed it back, only for the juggler to drop it a second time, eliciting more groans from the crowd.

He can be heard trying to persuade the participant to toss the third pin, saying, “Look at me! Up here!” The juggler then begins counting from one to three, saying “You throw on one”. The bashful participant can be seen chucking the pin feebly into the air as the crowd laughed.

Trying to save the show, the performer said: “It’s not your fault, I chose you!”

Onlookers in the crowd began to join in, encouraging the participant to toss the pin. One shouted: “You can do this, girl!”

Only once the performed paused his juggling did the participant pluck up the courage to toss the pin, prompting cheers from the crowd.
