Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze at an industrial estate in Glasgow.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at New Albion Industrial Estate, near Knightswood and Yoker, at around 1.12pm on Sunday, April 13.

Eight appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) remained at the scene as of 3pm and are being assisted by officers from Police Scotland.

It is unclear at this stage how the blaze started or if there have been any injuries as a result of the fire.

An image taken from the scene shows flames bursting out of the top of a building, with a large plume of black smoke billowing into the sky.

A video seen by the Record also shows the smoke spewing out from the side of the building.

A man who lives nearby said he was “coughing his lungs up” as smoke filtered into his home.

Police Scotland confirmed they are at the scene, assisting firefighters.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We were alerted to a fire at New Albion Industrial Estate in Glasgow at 1:12pm on Sunday, April 13. Eight appliances are currently at the scene.”

The Record reported earlier this week on a huge explosion at an industrial estate in Kilwinning. Emergency services rushed to the inferno at a recycling centre at West Byrehill Industrial Estate.

The SFRS advised locals to keep their windows shut, while cops urged motorists to avoid the area and take a different route.

A local man – whose house looks onto the recycling centre – said he saw firefighters running for cover. Ryan Wallace said: “The heat from the fire is really bad.

“The flames are a strange blue, green colour and missiles are flying out of the blaze all over the place.

“Officers from the emergency services started running away as the batteries started exploding.

“The smoke is like an erupting volcano.”
