A former Manchester United star has insisted that he likes “watching” one Premier League talent after Ruben Amorim’s men suffered their defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest hosted Manchester United at City Ground on Tuesday evening and Nuno Espirito Santo’s men ensured all three Premier League points on the night.

Ruben Amorim’s side fell behind only five minutes into the Premier League clash after Anthony Elanga broke the deadlock with a stunning solo effort at City Ground.

Anthony Elanga carried the ball from his own half and the 22-year-old Swedish talent singlehandedly completed Forest’s counterattack against United.

The former United man showed incredible pace, strength and tenacity before he drove a powerful low shot past Andre Onana into the bottom corner of the net.

Amorim’s men were unable to rally back against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and United were left chasing the match against Forest after conceding early on.

United are 13th in the Premier League table under Amorim and the Red Devils have only won 10 league matches from 30 fixtures in the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils have only eight league matches remaining this season and United are currently on course for their worst finish in the Premier League era.

Anthony Elanga’s run at Old Trafford came to an end in 2023 after Manchester United sold the Swedish forward to Nottingham Forest for a fee of around £15m.

The Sweden international has impressed in the 2024-25 season at Nottingham Forest and has been a key first-team player for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Elanga has netted six times and registered nine assists in 34 matches this season and the Forest attacker’s performance caught the eye of Gordon Hill.

Former United and England winger Gordon Hill took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and waxed lyrical about Elanga’s display on the night.

“Like watching [Elanga],” he wrote.

“A player I would not have got rid of, especially with that left foot. So, deceiving. And can balance a team.”

Gordon Hill sends Ruben Amorim a brutal assessment of Man Utd’s performance vs Nottingham Forest in the Premier League defeat

Speaking on X, Gordon Hill wasted no time dropping his clear-cut verdict over the Red Devils’ poor showing in the final third at City Ground on Tuesday.

“Just watching the [Man] Utd game v Forrest, Utd just cannot finish, full stop,” he wrote.

“If they expect to get a result they have to finish, and not leave it to one player, Forrest have played and attacked well, and got a great goal.

“But [they] cannot be let to run the field to score.”

Ruben Amorim’s men will now host the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with kick-off for United vs Manchester City slated for 4:30pm UK time.
