Birmingham City sold Jobe Bellingham to Sunderland in the summer of 2023Jobe Bellingham has made a name for himself in the Championship since leaving Birmingham City
Birmingham City academy graduate Jobe Bellingham is set to join Borussia Dortmund this summer in a boost to his former club’s coffers.
Bellingham, 19, will depart Sunderland after helping the Black Cats win promotion via the Championship play-offs.
The midfielder had plenty of interest at home and abroad but has opted to follow in the footsteps of his brother Jude Bellingham and sign for Dortmund.
Dortmund have agreed to pay Sunderland an initial €32million (£27m) to sign Bellingham and the deal is said to include €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.
Blues are believed to have a small sell-on clause that will entitle them to a percentage of the profit Sunderland make on the transfer which took Bellingham to the north east in 2023.
Bellingham played 24 matches in the Championship for Blues and has since added 88 second tier appearances to his name with the Black Cats.
The midfielder has been named in the England under-21s squad for this summer’s European Championships in Slovakia alongside Blues striker Jay Stansfield, but he could yet opt to represent Dortmund in the Club World Cup instead if his transfer goes through before tomorrow’s deadline.
The 10-day transfer window created to allow clubs to bolster their squads before the Club World Cup ends on June 10 before the traditional summer transfer window opens on June 16.
