Police have issued an update after a man was left fighting for life following an assault. Emergency services were called to The Hare and Hounds on Cronton Road in Huyton at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, June 3.
It followed reports of a fight, and when officers arrived they found a man in his 30s who had suffered a head injury and he was taken to hospital. In an update today (June 10), police confirmed the man remains in a critical condition.
Following the incident a 47-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and a 47-year-old man from Whiston was arrested on suspicion of section 39 common assault. Merseyside Police confirmed today both men have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Merseyside Police said the pub remained closed the day after the incident so officers could speak to witnesses and gather evidence. Detectives said they believe a private function was taking place at the time of the fight.
Eyewitnesses said the pub was cordoned off and forensic officers were also spotted at the scene.

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said at the time: “At this early stage, we are appealing to any witnesses to the incident. Two men are in custody but our enquiries are ongoing.
“Your account, images or footage could be vital as we look to establish exactly what happened.
“We believe that a private function was taking place at the time, and we need to speak to anyone there who has yet to make themselves known.”
