A huge new ‘day to night’ food court and bar is opening in Birmingham city centre this summer, with five well-known food and drink traders confirming permanent plots inside the hall.

The owners of the always-busy Society Manchester are hoping to recreate their success in Birmingham’s business district by opening a 9,000 square foot venue with a similar set-up at One Colmore Square.

Plans were first announced in August last year for a new open plan dining hall and outdoor terrace with capacity to host 350 people, which was originally tipped to open in February.

An official open date has now been confirmed for September 5 and BirminghamLive can exclusively reveal the five traders that will occupy the food court’s in-house kitchens.

Iconic Birmingham bakery, Shokupan, will be bringing its expertly-crafted Japanese ‘sando’ sandwiches and melts to Society Birmingham alongside traditional Neapolitan-style pizzas from the much-loved city Italian, Amore Pizza.

The Coffee Bar will provide visitors with a caffeine fix from early morning. The brand will be working with small-scale farmers, roasters and artisans on a range of specialty coffees, pastries and small plates.

North-West based Manzoku, which occupies a spot in the Manchester venue, will be serving up pan-Asian street food-style dishes like katsu curry, pulled pork buns and Korean fried chicken wings.

New to Birmingham, Slap & Pickle will be bringing the signature 40-day dry-aged smash burgers and loaded fries loved by diners up north to the city.

Brummies have been told to expect a ‘social space that’s laid back, welcoming and filled with authentic, quality food and drink’, open day through to night.

The food hub will boast understated interiors with high ceilings, vibrant greenery and commissioned artwork and murals produced by local and national artists.

The Society bar will be the centrepiece of the hall, offering one of the largest selection of beers available in the city, with 36 lines of craft beer from renowned breweries, including hometown greats Attic and Glasshouse and the likes of Deya, Verdant and Track.

There will also be a wine list featuring wines from established and emerging regions, including low intervention and natural wines, alongside a top-notch spirits and cocktails list and a non-alcoholic range.

DJs will be playing in the evenings from Thursday through the weekend.

Nick Gregory, co-founder of Society, said: “Following the success of Society in Manchester, we can’t wait to open in Birmingham.

“Society is about creating a place where people can come together in an atmosphere that naturally evolves throughout the day – from breakfast, lunch right through to evening drinks and DJs.”

Richard Sweet, co-founder of Society, added: “We want to bring five quality, independent food traders to the site and we’re so pleased local heroes are included in the line up as Birmingham has such a thriving street food scene with some superb food on offer.

“With each of the food traders having a permanent kitchen, it will be a great opportunity for local, independent businesses in a prime city-centre site.”
