This is the shocking footage of a man grabbing a passer-by to stop a gunman firing at him during disorder in Aston.

Key Lemathy was caught on camera recklessly firing a gun when a fight broke out a the junction of Witton Road and Endicott Road, despite pedestrians walking around.

Yellow flashes can be seen and loud bangs heard as he shoots outside takeaways and businesses during the evening of October 12, last year.

Chillingly, Lemarthy’s target grabs an innocent passer-by and uses his body as a ‘human shield’ in an attempt to stop him from firing at him.

The member of the public wrestles free and runs for their life.

Two bicycles can be seen in the middle of the roadway as the footage draws to a close.

Armed officers were called to just after 7.45pm but those involved had already fled.

West Midlands Police’s Major Crime Unit launched an investigation and found that Lemathy had himself been stabbed in the disorder and had taken himself to hospital.

Detectives found that the 21-year-old was involved in the disorder and fired the gun.

Lemathy, of Holte Road, Perry Barr, was promptly arrested after he was discharged from hospital and charged.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent at Birmingham Crown Court in April and was jailed for nine years and nine months.

The success is part of Operation Target, which focuses on serious and organised crime.

The force said: “Those involved in guns, drugs, money laundering and exploitation are being brought to justice as part of the operation.”
