Museums go interactive with Google

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Culture Minister Lina Mendoni launched “Greek Art Now” Tuesday at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, digitizing collections from three major Greek museums on the Google Arts & Culture platform.

The initiative showcases modern and contemporary Greek art through more than 60 digital stories and 1,800 high-resolution images spanning from the 19th century to present. Featured institutions include the National Gallery, National Museum of Contemporary Art and Thessaloniki’s Metropolitan Organization of Museums of Visual Arts.

The platform offers virtual museum tours, interactive art exploration through Art Camera technology and augmented reality experiences. Users can digitally deconstruct and reconstruct artworks while exploring hidden stories behind collections, making Greek contemporary art globally accessible without geographical limitations.
