Father’s Day is just a few days away and if you’re worrying you may have left it too late to book a Sunday lunch then you needn’t worry – there are plenty of Liverpool restaurants that still have availability. Nothing beats a classic roast dinner, and it’s the ideal lunch to share with your dad on this special day.

Whether you fancy a chain carvery meal where you can go back up for extra servings, or fine cuts of the best meats at specialist steakhouses, there are lots of options for dining across the city. Some city centre venues still have space for their Sunday lunch offering, with additional options in the suburbs.

We rounded up some of the most popular and highly rated restaurants for roast dinners in Liverpool and checked what availability they had for Sunday lunch on June 15.

Toby Carvery

Liverpool has a number of Toby Carvery branches, with sites in Aintree, Aigburth, Speke and Stoneycroft. Each restaurant still had plenty of availability for Father’s Day Sunday, at the time of writing.

Toby Carvery first opened its doors back in 1985 serves up a steady stream of classic roast dinners every day of the week. This chain restaurant is ‘the home of the roast’ for a reason – and you know exactly what to expect when visiting one of its branches.

Diners have a selection of meats to choose from – with gammon, pork, beef and turkey all on offer. There is a selection of vegetables and sides which diners can help themselves to from the hotplates, with classics like beef dripping roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and slightly more unusual additions like mac and cheese.

The selection of sauces and different gravy options are all stationed at the end of the buffet area, with diners welcome to go back up to the buffet for as much extra veg as they want during their booking. You can also choose to go ‘Kingsize’ for a bigger plate with a larger serving of meat dished up by the carvers.

The Blackburne Arms

The Blackburne Arms in the Georgian Quarter has become one of the city’s most popular gastropubs in recent years. Co-owner Stephen Sinclair was born in Stockbridge Village but moved to Woking in Surrey when he was a child.

He started his career in Woking’s pubs, before working for Marco Pierre White at his Yew Tree gastropub near Newbury. He previously told the ECHO he decided to return home to Merseyside after “being away for too long”.

Stephen established The Blackburne Arms in Catharine Street with his wife Lina. Stephen believes the venue serves the best roast dinners in Liverpool, claiming staff have to turn away 600 to 700 people each Sunday hoping to try them. Despite the huge demand, there were still tables available when the ECHO checked at time of writing.

Old School House

Undoubtedly one of the most popular spots on Lark Lane, Old School House has got an absolute suntrap of a beer garden to the side of the historic venue, with plenty of tables where customers can spend the day tucking into everything from brunch to pizza and cocktails.

It may have only been open since 2021 but it’s already established itself as a mainstay of the lane, and it serves up Sunday lunches every week from 12pm until they run out. There are still spaces available for this Sunday.

Giant Yorkshire puddings preside over plates willed with a choice of beef, chicken, pork belly or vegan pie.

Each meal comes with all the trimmings, in the form of carrot and swede, parsnips, tender stem broccoli, roasties and gravy. You can also add on sage and onion stuffing balls, pigs in blankets or cauliflower cheese.

Albert Schloss

Albert’s Schloss is known for almost always being bouncing, with live music seven days a week and plenty of flowing ale. But the restaurant and bar’s ‘Sunday Service’ applies this party atmosphere to a roast dinner service, making for an upbeat and lively meal.

Sunday choirs and live DJs provide the soundtrack for a lunch menu of classic dishes and Alpine elements. The menu includes a try aged rump of beef for £20, a roast Cumbrian chicken for £19 and the ‘schweinshaxe’ which is a caraway roasted pork knuckle. Meaty mains are served with duck fat roast potatoes and different trimmings depending on the main of choice.

There are still spaces for lunch bookings this Sunday at the time of writing.

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill

Enjoy a traditional roast dinner with all the trimmings at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill. For Father’s Day, the restaurant is offering a signature rib of beef Sunday roast, as well as the usual menu offerings including rump of lamb, loin of pork and mixed roast.
