Actor Chris Robinson has died aged 86, his friend has confirmed. The actor is best known for playing bomber pilot Alexander “Sandy” Komansky in WWII series 12 O’Clock High, which ran from 1964 to 1967. He also had long-running stints in The Bold and the Beautiful as Jack Hamilton from 1992 to 2002 and Rick Webber on General Hospital from 1978 to 1986.
He became a regular star on 12 O’Clock High, a series based around the 918th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) stationed at Archbury Field, England, after joining during the second series and remaining for the final 46 episodes. His friend and Just For A Week co-star MJ Allen confirmed the news, writing on Facebook: “Prolific Hollywood actor Chris Robinson has passed away at the age of 86. He peacefully passed in his sleep at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona at 12:30am on June 9, 2025. He had been in heart failure for some time, and is his official cause of death.
“His more than 100 roles in television and feature film span from 1957-2022. Most notably, his longtime role as “Dr. Rick Webber” on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital made him a worldwide television star. While on the show, Chris launched the careers of John Stamos, Rick Springfield, and Richard Dean Anderson.”
He had a career which spanned an impressive eight decades, starring in hit films such as The Young Savages in 1961 and Birdman of Alcatraz in 1962 , both directed by John Frankenheimer.
Robinson also guest starred on series such as guest-starring on such series as Colt. 45, Death Valley Days, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train and The Fugitive before landing his biggest role on 12 O’Clock High.
Robinson also coined the famous phrase “I’m not a doctor, but I do play one on TV, after appearing in an iconic Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup commercial.
Chris is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Jacquie Shane-Robinson who also acted alongside him in all three of his last films.
He also leaves behind sons, Shane, Coby, Christian, Taylor, Christopher Robinson, Christopher Lance, and adopted son Robb Walker. Taylor also starred on Bold and the Beautiful as the third edition CJ Harrison from 1993 to 1994.
