Steak chain Flat Iron has confirmed plans for its much-anticipated Bristol city centre restaurant. The company says it has a “single-minded commitment to serving remarkable steak for all”.

Founder Charlie Carroll opened the first Flat Iron in 2012 as a pop-up above a pub in East London. It now has 15 restaurants in London and recently opened in Manchester, Leeds and Cambridge.

In Bristol it will take over the site of Four Wise Monkeys for the 100 cover restaurant, on Clare Street in the Old City. A planning application was submitted to Bristol City Council in April for the external signage, which was approved at the end of May.

Flat Iron says its steak is a cut sourced from the feather blade and “renowned for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness when seam butchered with skill and care”.

It is served alongside a rotating board of specials, including Wagyu daily specials and a chilli cheeseburger, made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Sides include Flat Iron’s beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.

The drinks menu will offer a selection of wines including Flat Iron’s own Malbec from vineyards in the Limoux region in southern France’s Languedoc. There will also be a range of draft beers, cocktails, and house fizzes.

The Bristol Flat Iron is one of two new restaurants being opened by the company in the coming months. It will open in Brighton this autumn, with Bristol following in early 2026.

Flat Iron’s head of beef, Fred Smith, said: “At Flat Iron, we pride ourselves on serving delicious, carefully sourced, remarkable steak.

“In our mission to make this accessible to a wider audience, we are excited to announce that we are bringing this to Bristol and Brighton, two cities we have always wanted to be part of.”

Flat Iron Bristol will be at 30 Clare Street, Bristol, BS1 1YH and more details will be released via @FlatIronSteak on Instagram.
