West Ham watchers will well remember the sight of Tim Steidten jetting off on missions to sign talented players – Alvarez and Todibo to name but two – and return with them in triumph ahead of London Stadium signings. Never one to miss a photo opportunity, Tim was often pictured with the players in question.

That was last year. Much has changed in the ensuing 12 months. West Ham have a new recruitment team but, according to further news from South America today are still doing their utmost to bring in talented players from the other side of the Atlantic.

“West Ham have ‘great interest’ in the 23-year-old and have sent representatives to Buenos Aires…The Hammers have already held talks with the centre-back’s entourage about the contract and now ‘move forward’ with his club”. 

One player pursuit which, as the reports gather in frequency, does seem to have substance. It would also tie in with the Hammers’ planned sale of Nayef Aguerd which would presumably provide the funds.
