Birmingham City and Wrexham have formed quite the rivalry over the last 12 months and are once again set to go head-to-head in the Championship.

Despite finishing below them in the League One table last term, Wrexham outperformed Birmingham City in one impressive metric in 2024/25.

The Red Dragons made club history, while the Blues set an EFL points record, notching 111 to win the title ahead of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side.

The two clubs have formed an interesting rivalry over the last 12 months, and it’s going to continue once the 2025/26 Championship season gets underway.

Tom Brady has hit out at Wrexham in recent weeks, but a fresh announcement from Birmingham shows the club he has invested in remains well behind the Rob and Ryan machine.

The two teams have become intrinsically linked due to the high-profile nature of their owners.

Wrexham and Birmingham want Harry Darling, and there is sure to be much media attention put on their two meetings in the coming campaign.

But it remains clear that while the Blues finished above the Welsh outfit last season, it is Reynolds and McElhenney who have the far bigger global reach.

Birmingham announced another 2025 pre-season fixture on June 12, with the Midlands outfit set to face off with sides such as Burton Albion, Northampton Town, and Port Vale

Wrexham 2025 pre-season fixtures

While Birmingham are taking on lower-level English sides this summer, Wrexham, thanks to the global reach of the club post-takeover, are heading on yet another major tour.

The Dragons have spent the last few years travelling around North America and facing big clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United.

In 2025, meanwhile, Wrexham have announced their pre-season tour of Australia will take place next month.

Birmingham and Wrexham will continue to be compared over the coming year, but no matter what happens in the upcoming Championship season, Rob and Ryan will always have a much bigger global appeal than Birmingham and Brady.
