A man was arrested in Perry Barr this evening following an incident on Aston Lane.

Emergency services swooped on Aston Lane just after 5pm on Thursday, June 12, to reports of a “man on top of a roof.”

Aston Lane and surrounding roads, including Kenilworth Road and London Road, were sealed off and residents were evacuated from nearby homes.

West Midlands Police confirmed officers were on Aston Lane where a man was “on top of a roof” and “negotiators and specialist officers” were brought in to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

The force said “a number of houses” were evacuated.

West Midlands Police confirmed at 7.40pm to BirminghamLive that a man had been arrested at Aston Lane.

A force spokesperson said: “A man has been arrested following an incident in Aston.

“We were called to Aston Lane after reports of a man on the roof of a building.

“The cordon which was being held has now been taken down and the incident has been brought to a close.”

BirminghamLive was at the scene this evening as emergency service crews, including a helicopter and multiple drones were brought in to attend the incident.

Our reporter at the scene described the “waiting game” facing residents as they waited for 999 crews to clear the scene.

The exact location of the incident on Aston Lane has not been specified.

Aston Lane is expected to reopen imminently and bus services to return back to normal.
