Germany started their U-21 EUROs campaign with a bang. A clean sheet and a hattrick showed some excellent individual performances. The only issue with the team was a slow down in the second half, and a few players that just didn’t mesh with the attack.

Jersey Swap: Martin Turk

The Slovenian goalkeeper was simply outmatched by the Germany attack, but Turk certainly prevented several more. A weaker goalkeeper would have let in another two goals perhaps. Honorable mention to Marko Brest who put in some great balls and has dominant in ground duels.

Der Kaiser: Max Rosenfelder

Rosenfelder just narrowly beat out Nathaniel Brown on today’s awards. Rosenfelder was the rock in the backline, with an almost perfect performance. One of those performances that you don’t notice him in defense because he is never caught out of position. Passed with a 93% accuracy and assisted one of the goals. Only knock on his performance would be losing in the aerial duel battle.

Fußballgott: Rocco Reitz

Reitz was the central cog of the team. Reitz won almost every single duel he entered, blocked shots, intercepted, and was not dribbled past once the entire game. Passing accuracy will need to improve but otherwise a great performance.

Der Bomber: Brajan Gruda

There were slim pickings here due to the true top attacker winning the Meister of the Match. Neither Gruda, Nebel, or Tresoldi played great. However, Gruda stood out slightly more above the rest. Gruda had a pass accuracy of 93% and two key passes but his touches otherwise weren’t great.

Meister of the Match: Nick Woltemade

Was it ever a doubt who the meister would be? Woltemade was near perfect, scoring all three of his shots. While he wasn’t his usual dominant in the air, he didn’t need to be. An otherwise poor offense from his teammates, will need to be better going forwards towards tougher competition.
