St James’ Park is once again a sea of black and white as Sam Fender returns to his native North East. The North Shields singer is playing his first of three sell-out crowds tonight with around 50,000 people attending each show.

There were huge queues outside St James’ Park hours before Sam Fender was even due on stage on Thursday afternoon. The weather has been gorgeous with people out early in their Newcastle United tops and bucket hats to soak up the atmosphere.

But one Sam Fender fan has swapped the St James’ Park turf for the stands, as Newcastle United’s Wembley hero Dan Burn spotted in the crowd.

He could be seen in one of the boxes enjoying a drink and dancing with friends, and seemed to be extra happy when he was being serenaded by his own chant, the NUFC fan version of ‘Pretty Green Eyes’.

The Blyth-born defender, who was recently given the Freedom of Northumberland, seems to have traded in the jet-setting travels of his teammates to spend part of his summer right here at home, in the most Geordie way possible.

With Sam Fender taking to the stage just after 9pm, ‘Big’ Dan Burn still has plenty of time to do more dancing and enjoy himself to the fullest as he sees his beloved St James’ Park from a very different perspective.

He will have been accustomed to the Local Hero tune which Sam Fender entered the stage to on Thursday night, followed by the iconic Champions League anthem.

Sam Fender got the crowd rocking with his first song being ‘Getting Started’ ahead of a setlist which will live long in the memory for those lucky enough to get tickets.
