Check out the tips and best bets for Saturday’s racing at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke day, plus the action from Sandown-Hillside, Rosehill, Murray Bridge and Bunbury.
BEST BETS
Eagle Farm R3 No.4 Campaldino
The small field suits Campaldino (4) which has won his past three and was too good for several of these in the Premier’s Cup lead-up. He has a genuine two-milers pedigree, makes his own luck and no-one rides an on-pacer better than Tim Clark.
Tim Clark (55.5kg)
G & A Waterhouse & Bott
4yoG (ch) Ghibellines x Zuzana
Sandown Hillside R2 No.5 Terilee
The last two losing margins are very unfair to Terilee (5) – 5.1L at Caulfield and 3L at Sandown Hillside last start. She never saw daylight in this grade at Caulfield in a race won by the promising Madiyya, and then copped a bad steer from a wide gate here. She’s drawn more favourably in barrier seven and doesn’t have the handy Ahha Ahha to chase down this time.
Daniel Moor (57.5kg)
Michael Kent
3yoF (b) Territories x Street Spun
Rosehill R5 No.2 Codetta
Codetta (2) was quite unlucky when resuming. Flew when clear to grab second behind King’s Secret. She’s unbeaten second-up into a campaign and can add to that record here.
Jace McMurray (58.5kg)
Michael Freedman
3yoF (ch) Nicconi x Missile Coda
BEST VALUE
Eagle Farm R8 No.13 Rise At Dawn
The Hayes stable has been flying and Rise At Dawn (13) was in the worst part of the track but fought on well behind Joliestar when resuming from a freshen-up after a narrow defeat in the Doncaster. A winner of three of four at the trip, he brings better Group 1 form than most of these, has only 52.5kg and will get every chance with Declan Bates.
Declan Bates (52.5kg)
Ben, Will & Jd Hayes
4yoG (ch) Almanzor x Kay’s Awake
Sandown Hillside R7 No.5 Earlswood
There is barely any speed in this race, so if Earlswood (5) is ridden to lead from barrier two, he should take plenty of running down. He was only beaten 2.6L as a 100-1 pop on resumption and this race is far more suitable, quickly jumping from 1400m to 1800m. He’s only had one second-up run for Gavin Bedggood and he won it, scoring comfortably over the Ballarat mile last prep.
Joe Bowditch (56.5kg)
Gavin Bedggood
7yoG (b) Pivotal x Field Of Miracles
Rosehill R3 No.16 Miss Spacegirl
Miss Spacegirl (16) took a while to break the maiden status but was able to do so two back at Kembla and backed it up with a solid runner-up finish earlier this month. Back to 1200m is the key with her and she should also appreciate a dry track.
Dylan Gibbons (54kg)
R & W Freedman
3yoF (b) Territories x Galaxial
