A food vendor counter caught alight on Alum Rock Road

A busy main route was briefly closed to traffic following a fire.
A food vending counter positioned outside a chip shop on Alum Rock Road caught alight at 8.50am on Saturday (June 14).
Two fire crews attended and closed the road in both directions while they put out the blaze.

They used a hose reel to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately, no one was hurt and the fire did not affect the chip shop.

Crews left the scene at 9.40am and the road was reopened in both directions.
West Midlands Fire Service said: “We were called at 8.50am and sent two crews.
“The fire involved a food vendor counter outside a chip shop.

“There were no injuries and the road has been reopened.
“The flames did not spread to the chip shop.”
National Express West Midlands diverted the Number 14 service via: Washwood Heath Road and Highfield Road during the incident.
