Fire crews are battling a ‘significant’ house blaze in Birmingham.

Flames engulfed the roof of a property on Johnson Close, Hodge Hill, on Saturday morning (June 14).

West Midlands Fire Service sent five crews to the scene and also deployed a hydraulic platform.

Members of the public are being warned to avoid the area while the firefighting operation is underway.

The blaze is being described as ‘significant’ and more details will be available shortly from the service.

West Midlands Fire Service said: “We have five appliances and a hydraulic platform in attendance on Johnson Close, Hodge Hill, Birmingham, where they have responded to property fire.

“Please avoid the area, where possible.”

A video from the scene shows fire crews inside the gutted roof of a house which has been burned back to the rafters.

Johnson Close is cul-de-sac lined with modern homes, off Bromford Lane.
