What has been described as “one of the world’s poshest trains” will be setting out from Bristol next month.

Passengers will board the train, once part of the iconic Orient Express, over a red carpet at Temple Meads station at 8.30am on Friday, July 4.

The 1930s Pullman-style Northern Belle is heading for the Royal Horticultural Society’s Hampton Court Garden Festival.

The second biggest garden show in the UK, it focuses on environmental issues as well as how to grow your own fruit and vegetables.

In a statement, the firm said: “Passengers will be handed their first glass of champagne before tucking into a three-course brunch during the journey to Hounslow, on the outskirts of London.

“Once there they will have the choice of boarding a coach to Hampton Court or travelling on to visit Royal Windsor Castle.

“Later in the afternoon there will be another champagne reception on board before a slap-up six-course dinner with wine is served on the way home.”

Hollywood star Bill Nighy described the Northern Belle as “the Grand Dame of luxury travel” when it featured on Channel 5, the firm said, adding it is regularly listed among the world’s top trains.

“There are even musicians on board to serenade passengers during dinner while a conjuror wanders through the carriages to add an extra touch of magic to the occasion,” its statement continues.

“The Northern Belle will return to Bristol in September for a Cornish Lunch excursion via Dawlish in Devon. Then in December there will be a slap-up Christmas Lunch trip.”

Fares start at £365, with full details available on the Northern Belle website.
