Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah believes he is in the right place “to take the next step” in his career amid interest from Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga side are believed to be admirers of Quansah, who struggled for minutes during a frustrating season at Liverpool having made an impressive senior breakthrough the previous campaign.
The 22-year-old made just four Premier League starts as the Reds romped to a record-equalling 20th title, with his main action coming in cup competitions where he made nine starts including featuring at right-back in the League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.
Nevertheless, Liverpool are planning on having Quansah continue in their first-team squad next season in competition to fellow centre-backs Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

And the Academy graduate, currently with England at the UEFA European Under-21 Championships in Slovenia, is taking a level-headed view on his career path.
“It’s definitely developing,” said Quansah, speaking ahead of Sunday’s group game against the host nation. “I’m not getting too high or too low with anything.
“I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I’ve had in professional football. From Bristol Rovers (where he spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan) until now, to put perspective and look back I’m in a very good position to take the next step.
“It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.
“As for the future, it’ll put me in the best stead if I just keep my head down and keep working.”
Quansah featured along with Liverpool team-mates Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton for England U21s in their 3-1 win over Czechia in their group opener on Thursday night.
Elliott scored the opening goal and, of his relationship with the attacking midfielder, Quansah said: “We’re so close together. We can talk about a lot of things on and off the pitch, it doesn’t need to be about football.
“It can be about something completely separate which takes your mind off of things if they are not going the way you’d want them to on the pitch.
“We’re always in each others ear trying to help each other if you’re having a bad time or whatever it may be. Having people close to you that you’re able to speak to is very valuable if you want to progress to the next level.”
