Leeds United have been informed that a sum of £21million would be enough to secure the services of Udinese’s stalwart defender Jaka Bijol.

The Yorkshire club, eager to outmanoeuvre competitors such as AC Milan, Roma, and Bologna for the Slovenian’s signature, have had an initial offer turned down already.

Their first bid, totalling around £14.5m, indicates there’s more negotiation needed before the two clubs can come to terms.

Leeds are now accelerating their efforts, with new manager Daniel Farke already giving the green light for Bijol’s acquisition.

In recent comments, the 26-year-old centre-back expressed his openness to a summer move after spending three seasons with Udinese, remarking: “Is Milan looking for me? We are talking about a really big club.

“These are just rumours and in Italy there really are a lot of them. But it’s true that I feel ready for the next step, let’s see if that’s this summer.”
