Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl’s future remains in doubt, while Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri continues to oversee financial mismanagement at Hillsborough.
Chansiri failed to pay Sheffield Wednesday players and staff wages in May, leading to serious uncertainty at the South Yorkshire club.
According to the Sheffield Star [13 June], some Owls players have now been paid last month’s salary, but others are still awaiting payment.
Meanwhile, Rohl is a sought-after manager, having guided Wednesday to a comfortable mid-table Championship finish last season despite his strained relationship with Chansiri.

The Sheffield Wednesday boss proved his managerial credentials in 2023/24 when the South Yorkshire side avoided relegation despite trying circumstances.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, 14 June, the Sheffield Star’s Joe Crann posted on X: “Chansiri and Rohl could end up in the worst Mexican stand-off ever at this rate.

Rohl will join a new club this summer
As alluded to by Crann, Chansiri is unwilling to fire the Sheffield Wednesday boss amid the tension between the pair at Hillsborough, while the German may be unable to walk away.
Wednesday finished mid-table last season
However, Rohl was previously linked with the Rangers job before the appointment of Russell Martin, proving the many admirers he has beyond South Yorkshire.
According to the Northern Echo [10 June], Rohl is a candidate to replace Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough, providing him with a potential route away from Wednesday.
The German appears likely to receive a job offer from one of the Owls’ Championship rivals ahead of next campaign, and Chansiri will find it difficult to find the 36-year-old’s successor amid his ongoing monetary mishaps.
Chansiri rejected a chance to sell Sheffield Wednesday, even though the only realistic chance the Owls have of retaining Rohl is if the Thai businessman leaves Hillsborough this summer.
Wednesday supporters may fear a relegation battle next season, while star man Barry Bannan could leave South Yorkshire ahead of next term.
