The German U-21 team continues their exciting tournament with another goal fest. Both teams showed greatness, but also individual errors. Germany now head into the third matchday facing England, tournament favorites, loaded with individual talent.
Jersey Swap: Karel Spáčil
There was not any real standout performance from the Czechia squad today. Down 4-0, Czechia did not give up as they would score two more and show signs of a comeback. Looking a bit closer though, the own goal was a fluke and the second goal, a defensive blunder. Czechia’s greatest asset was German mistakes. Karel Spáčil was the one player to score for Czechia and was decent otherwise.
Der Kaiser: Nnamdi Collins
The Eintracht Frankfurt product had another solid display, dominating the right flank. Collins assisted Germany’s first and would get further involved in the offense, almost scoring off a beautiful Woltemade layoff. Collins was the clear standout in this backline tonight.
Fußballgott: Eric Martel
The FC Köln midfielder had an excellent performance. Martel bossed the midfield alongside Rocco Reitz, who was also great. This midfield partnership shows great potential moving forward in this tournament.
Der Bomber: Paul Nebel
Nebel will go a little unnoticed in this match by many, as he was outshined by his companion, Nick Woltemade. However, Nebel’s performance should not be underrated. Nebel was outstanding when called upon, scoring and doing every small thing right. Nebel passed as good as anyone in the attack, creating many chances for Germany.
Meister of the Match: Nick Woltemade
While it might be repetitive to give this award to the same player in consecutive matches, there was simply no other option. The Stuttgart striker had another brilliant performance with a goal and two assists. He was the best player on the pitch by far, and there is strong evidence as to why many top clubs are reportedly interested in his signature.
