Dozens of Bristolian heroes have been recognised for their achievements in this years King’s Birthday Honours list.
The list honours the incredible accomplishments of 1,215 people from across the UK, recognising their contributions and achievements in their various fields.
Alongside celebrities and famous figureheads, the King has celebrated a number of local heroes including charity workers, a police inspector and educators from the city are among those celebrated in the list.
Among the celebrities honoured include Former England football captain David Beckham, actor Gary Oldman and The Who singer Roger Daltrey.
TV presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) while reality TV star Georgia Harrison was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to tackling online privacy and cyber crime awareness.
Closer to home, Stuart Stephen King, an inspector at Avon and Somerset Police, was awarded a King’s Police Medal in this years honours list.
Inspector King created the Dementia Safeguarding Scheme that was launched by the force in 2015.
The scheme aims to provide reassurance to those with dementia and their families. Funded through charitable contributions and stakeholder support, Inspector King administered the scheme alongside his policing duties and continues to manage the scheme alongside his role in the Office of the PPC.
Reflecting on over 20 years of police service, Inspector King explained what inspired him to create the scheme: “I’ve seen an increase in calls related to individuals with dementia found in distressed states or lost. Some incidents have had tragic outcomes, prompting me to seek a solution to better safeguard people.”
