Motorists in Braunton, Bideford, Lundy Island and Buckfastleigh have to contend with more bad drivers than anywhere else in Devon outside of Plymouth. The EX33 postcode area, which covers Braunton, is home to a total of 233 drivers with six or more points on their licence, according to the latest figures from the Department for Transport.
That works out as one in every 33 licence holders living there. Meanwhile, in EX39 ( Bideford and Lundy Island) a total of 881 drivers have at least six points on their licence, and in TQ11 (Buckfastleigh) there are 96.
Both of these also work out as one in every 33 drivers, making them the joint highest proportions of any postcode areas in Devon, outside of Plymouth.
The PE5 postcode area, which covers Ailsworth, Castor, and Sutton, has the next highest proportion of In PL19 ( Tavistock, Bradstone, Mary Tavy and other areas), one in every 34 licence holders has at least six points on their licence. In PL9 (Plymstock, Heybrook Bay, Mount Batten and other areas) it’s one in every 35, and in both TQ1 ( Torquay centre and St Marychurch) and TQ10 (South Brent) it’s one in every 36.
The worst drivers in Great Britain can be found in Middlesbrough. The TS1 postcode area, which covers the Teesside town, is home to a total of 308 drivers with six or more points on their licence.
That works out as one in every 18 licence holders living there, which is the highest proportion of any postcode area in Great Britain.
Middlesbrough drivers have overtaken those of one Bradford neighbourhood to take the dubious honour of being the postcode with the worst drivers in the country.
The 2025 City of Culture is also a city of bad drivers, with four of the top 10 worst postcodes being in Bradford.
It’s particularly bad in the BD3 postcode, which covers the Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Thornbury areas of the city, and had previously been the worst in the country.
One in every 21 licence holders living in the area have at least six points on their licence.
That’s the joint second-highest ratio in the country along with L6 and L7 in Liverpool, and WF13 in Dewsbury.
