DNA-testing company Sequencing LLC would pay $356,500 to settle a class action alleging it shared consumers’ genetic information with third parties in violation of the Illinois Genetic Information Privacy Act, under a proposed deal filed in federal court.
Each member of the class would receive around $300 after deduction from the settlement fund of attorneys’ fees and costs, settlement expenses, and a service award for the class representative, according to a motion for preliminary approval of the settlement filed June 13 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
