A life size Barbie box has turned up in Bristol city centre.

The surprising item was spotted on the Harbourside yesterday afternoon (Monday, June 16), with many passers-by stopping to take a look.

A note taped to the front seemingly from Barbie herself says “I’ve had enough”.

As it turns out, Barbie has headed to Impermanence at The Mount Without, off St Michael’s Mill in Bristol city centre, to entertain audiences with her life story as she turns 66 this year.

ELEFANTIN takes place from today, Tuesday 17 until Thursday 19 June at 7.30pm.

It says: “Taking inspiration from music videos, advertising and comedy sketch shows, the show looks at female image and expectation, heteronormative and male gaze, female empowerment and aggressive sexuality in pop culture and asks the iconic 1959 Barbie, how she is and what she really wants for herself.”

The Mount Without, on Upper Church Lane, was rebuilt following extensive fire damage.

It says on its website: “The Mount Without events is solely dedicated to curating Private & Public Events, from art exhibitions, concerts, private soiree’s, weddings, music gigs, holistic and immersive experiences and IMPERMANENCE create a place for dance in Bristol, with a programme of cutting-edge productions, alongside being a training and rehearsal space for dancers…”

The space has a high rating on Google, averaging at 4.8 after receiving more than 360 reviews.

It is also used as a wedding venue. One recent reviewer said: “I’ve been to The Mount Without several times now as a wedding photographer and it’s by far one of my favourite venues.

“The venue is stunning with all the drama & grandeur of an old church, and the crypt being the perfect place for a party! The staff are also so welcoming & help everything run smoothly.

“I can’t wait to be back again this summer for another amazing Bristol city wedding.”
