The USMNT easily handled Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday night to start off their 2025 Gold Cup campaign on the right foot. There was an evident quality gap which was exacerbated by the Soca Warriors appearing disinterested at points but caveats about the quality of the opponent aside the US team took care of business in their 5-0 win.
The community ratings were largely muted with most scores coming in the middle 5-6 range with the typical exceptions for the goal contributors. There was a couple interesting exceptions to this rule and there may be a split of opinions emerging among the fanbase as goal scoring Patrick Agyemang was the second lowest rated starter, just ahead of Sebastian Berhalter. Maybe it shouldn’t be surprising as the goal that was credited to the Forward was something he clearly didn’t have much to say about.
Also interesting is that the center backs made their way towards the top of the list though they didn’t have much defensive work to do on the day. However, left-back Max Arfsten, who added a couple assists late in the match was just ahead of Agyemang, perhaps a nod to the uncertainty remaining with his defensive side of the game.
Diego Luna, who had a pair of assists himself including the aforementioned goal credited to Agyemang that was setup by what was clearly a Luna shot, finished the community ratings with a 7.89 which was a full point ahead of nearly every player. The exception being Malik Tillman who scored a brace including opening the scoring in the 16th minute to set the tone for the day and adding a second just before the half to keep Trinidad & Tobago from going into the half with any hope. Even outside of the goals Tillman had a very positive day and was your SSFC Man of the Match with an 8.26 rating.
