The pioneering band will release their first album in 31 years this weekThe Farm will release their new album Let The Music (Take Control) on Friday
A legendary Liverpool band is launching their new album with a special event this Friday (June 20). The Farm formed in 1984 and are renowned as pioneers in popularising football terrace culture and the crossover of indie/dance music.
The five piece, which comprises Peter Hooton, Carl Hunter, Keith Mullin, Roy Boulter and Steve Grimes, shot to stardom with their debut album Spartacus – and are renowned for classic songs such as All Together Now and Groovy Train.
They have announced the release of the first album in 31 years with Let The Music (Take Control), which is released on Friday. The band’s singer and lyricist, Peter Hooton, has spoken about how the new music remains true to The Farm’s trademark energy.
Speaking of opening track, Forever & Ever, he said: “When I first heard the new music in rehearsals, I knew I had to match the infectious nature of the music, so went for lyrics that aim straight between the eyes.
“I went for the timeless theme of everlasting love. It’s about love, obsession and infatuation.” To mark the release of the album, the band will be playing a special launch party at the Jacaranda Baltic this Friday.
The event will see the band perform an intimate gig as fans also have the chance to get a CD or vinyl of the new album. The album features 10 new songs, including Feel the Love, Waiting For the Sun and World Without You.
World Without You was the final track to be released as a single from the new album and Peter explained it is inspired by the death of two musical icons.
He said: “I wrote these lyrics after [David} Bowie passed away. I was so upset when he died, I was trying to imagine a world without him because he seemed immortal when I was young.
He added: “One of the lines in it ‘take me into the light’ were apparently Lou Reed’s last words, so I thought that was fitting to include them.”
Although this is their first new album since 1994, The Farm have been fixtures on the live music scene since 2004. They will continue the album launch celebration with a select number of appearances in various locations across the UK.
