Popular British heavyweight Derek Chisora has had 49 professional fights, so he knows what it is like to fight some of the best in the world.
Of late, Chisora has had some of the best successes of his career. He has clocked up points wins over Otto Wallin, who once gave Tyson Fury a hard fight over 12 rounds, and has also beaten Joe Joyce over the distance.
Along the way, he’s also faced up to Dillian Whyte and Tyson Fury on several occasions, twice faced Joseph Parker, Kubrat Pulev and Vitali Klitschko. He has long been focused on getting to 50 fights before he retires, and right now is waiting in the wings to see who that final fight may be against, with Fabio Wardley one man to call him out recently.
Looking back on his career with talkSPORT Boxing, ‘Del Boy’ named Oleksandr Usyk as the best he has ever faced, citing his movement as the most difficult problem to solve.
“Usyk. You can’t box that guy. He’s an animal. I have shared the ring with a lot of top fighters, but there’s no doubt it’s Usyk, because the way he gets you going, his movement is there. Every time you have to adjust, do you understand?”
After vacating his undisputed cruiserweight title, Usyk moved up to heavyweight and had an introductory win against Chazz Witherspoon before facing Chisora, who managed to make things uncomfortable for the Ukrainian but ultimately lost via unanimous decision.
Usyk is widely regarded as the current pound-for-pound ruler and a true all-time great. He will be hoping to rely upon his famous movement against the hard-hitting Daniel Dubois in their rematch on July 19. Should he win, he will become become a two-time undisputed champion in the top division.
