Peter Phillips and Samuel Chatto could be the next two members of the Royal Family to tie the knot with their respective partners. Peter, who is Princess Anne’s only son, has been dating Harriet Sperling since last year.
Harriet, who is a pediatric nurse, made her official debut with the Royal Family on June 17 – a major honour from the King to his nephew and his girlfriend. The 45-year-old travelled in the carriage procession alongside Peter. The 47-year-old royal was previously married to Autumn Phillips. Autumn is the mother of his two teenage daughters, 14-year-old Savannah and 13-year-old Isla.
Much like Peter, Harriet has a daughter from a previous marriage. In an essay in Woman Alive under her maiden name of Harriet Sanders, she wrote: “My daughter and I journeyed 10 years with only each other.
“I liken us to an island and it has often felt hard to imagine anyone joining that island… The unique relationship between a single mother and her child is forged in the fires of struggles and victories. It’s a bond characterised by a love and survival against the odds.”
Although she made her official public appearance alongside the royals on Tuesday, Harriet has made a few public appearances alongside Peter over the past year.
As Princess Margaret’s grandson and Lady Sarah Chatto’s son Samuel, 28, has been dating his girlfriend Eleanor Ekserdjian for around three years.
The couple has been seen together at various events, including London Fashion Week.
In a major honour from the King, Eleanor accompanied Samuel to the annual Sandringham Christmas Day service last year – an appearance that sparked engagement rumours. Eleanor describes herself as an “abstract painter and film artist”.
The Prince of Wales married Catherine Middleton in 2011, whilst the royal’s younger brother Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in 2018. Both Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are also already married. Eugenie, 35, married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018, whilst Beatrice tied the knot with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020.
Harry and Meghan’s wedding attracted an estimated 8.7million viewers via the BBC coverage. Higher than his brother and sister-in-law, William’s wedding attracted 34.7million viewers via the BBC alone. Beatrice and Eugenie’s weddings did not attract as much interest as they were not televised.
