A dad has been charged with the manslaughter of his young son. Mehmet Tufan, of Dovecot Place, Dovecot, is accused of the unlawful killing of Leo Tufan, who died aged four on December 14 2022.

The 30-year-old defendant appeared before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, Wednesday, in order to face this single count. Wearing a blue coat over a grey t-shirt and shorts in the dock of courtroom 22 and sporting short dark hair, he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a brief hearing and was not asked to enter any pleas.

Tufan’s case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where he will now appear on July 16, due to the seriousness of the alleged offence. Supported by a blonde woman in the public gallery, he was released on unconditional bail by the panel of magistrates panel ahead of this date.
