Prince William was supported by his mother-in-law Carole Middleton during an appearance at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
William’ wife Kate Middleton was noticeably absent from the annual racing event, despite being listed to sit with him in the carriage procession.
However, William wasn’t left completely alone as he was reunited with close friends of his, as well as his mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Whilst Carole and William were seen chatting animatedly, it was clear from Carole’s “maternal and caring” expression that the two have developed a close bond over the years.

Carole and daughter-in-law, Alizee Thevenet attended together and were seen reuniting with Prince William to watch the races. Whilst in the royal box, a touching moment of ‘maternal affection’ was displayed between the pair.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror US, body language expert Judi James commented on the touching display as she explained, “Carole’s Ascot mood appeared upbeat and cheerful, but here with William her strong, intense-looking eye-gaze with a questioning-looking expression and a small frown of concern looks very maternal and caring.”
She continued, “William does tend to get surrounded by royal ‘aunties’ when he appears here without Kate and Carole seems to be one of the group of support, along with Zara and Sophie.
“Her hug looks loving and warmly intimate and the way it’s performed smoothly despite the wide brim of her hat suggests a close, relaxed relationship.”
Carole, 70, was dressed in a beautiful yellow lace dress, which she wore with a matching hat, and was also see enjoying a conversation with King Charles and Queen Camilla, who wore a green outfit.

According to Town & Country, Kate is still said to be “continuously working on finding the balance between public duties and her health as she returns to engagements.”
Other royals in attendance at the event included the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Margaret’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto, as well as Zara and Mike Tindall. Close friends of William and Kate were also in attendance including former teacher to Prince George and Princess Charlotte Lucy van Straubenzee, who married property mogul and William’s childhood friend, Thomas van Straubenzee, in 2020.
Prince Louis’ godmother Lady Laura Meade, who is married to William’s best man James Meade, also joined the group.
