Firefighters are still working to bring the blaze under control

Firefighters remain at the scene of a blaze in Middleton tonight (Wednesday, June 18).

Emergency services were first called to the blaze on Old Hall Street at around 4.50pm.

The fire involves a storage unit, with eight fire engines called to the scene.

A number of road closures remain in place while fire crews work to bring the blaze under control.

In an update at around 11.30pm on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said the cordons were expected to remain in place throughout the night.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Firefighters are working hard to contain this fire and will be in attendance throughout the night to bring the blaze under control

“Road closures are likely to remain in place into the morning and local residents are still advised to keep windows and doors closed.”
