Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer.

The Brazil international moved to the Serie A side from Aston Villa ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, but things have not materialised for him.

The 27-year-old started only a handful of games for the Old Lady and, in total, made just 19 league appearances.

Luiz appears to be on his way out despite only spending one full season at Juventus.

According to Tuttosport (18 June), the Turin outfit are looking to sell the 27-year-old and are demanding a £34.2million fee for his services.

However, after his mediocre season, there are doubts as to whether any side would be willing to match that.

While Leeds are keen on signing Luiz, they are not expected to shell out north of £34million to secure his services.

Juventus are exploring the possibility of allowing him to leave on loan with an obligation to buy, so they’ll be getting a guaranteed fee in a year’s time.

Luiz could be a decent signing for Leeds United, bringing Premier League-proven quality and leadership to their midfield as they aim to solidify their top-flight status.

The 28-year-old Brazilian offers a dynamic box-to-box presence, combining defensive tenacity with creative flair.

He would arguably prove to be an upgrade over the Elland Road outfit’s current options like Ilia Gruev, Ao Tanaka and even Ethan Ampadu.

Luiz’s 18 Brazil caps and experience in high-stakes matches would add composure to Leeds’ youthful squad.

His £34million valuation would see the Whites come very close to breaking their transfer record and his familiarity with English football ensures a seamless transition.

While his disciplinary record needs managing, Luiz’s work rate and ability to dictate tempo would elevate Leeds’ midfield, making them more competitive against top-half sides and boosting their survival chances.

It will be down to the 49ers to start negotiating for Luiz and bring the price down, which should be possible given his subpar season.
